Volunteer Firefighter
Position Objectives
The Ketchum Fire Department is always looking for motivated individuals who want to join our team. The first step is to stop by Station 1 at 107 Saddle Rd and talk to the on-duty firefighters. They will provide you with an application and answer any questions you may have.
Every fall the department sponsors cadets for an Idaho State Certified Essentials of Firefighting Class. The class is 110 hours in length and is taught within the Wood River Valley. After successful completion of this class, you are given a pager and the title of probationary firefighter. The probationary period lasts for a year, during which you receive additional training.
Endless Opportunities
After becoming a firefighter, many opportunities await you. You can become an Emergency Medical Technician, train to be an Engineer (drives and operates the fire engines), or become a member of any of our specialty teams such as the Backcountry Rescue Team. You may find yourself doing things that you never imagined you could. The greatest reward is being able to help your friends and neighbors in times of need. Career firefighters are selected from our volunteer staff.
